Forgiveness
A poem I wrote during wildlife after Scott gave one of his lives to Pearl

She said she forgave him, After every heartless thing he had done. when no matter how much she begged he would never show her any love.
She watched his life fall to pieces, every burn and bruise feeling as if it's her own. An act that was meant to be selfless and in the shock, she thought it was.
She didn't mean to lie, her words felt true at the time, he had sacrificed himself for her, wasn't that meant to be good?
She never did understand, if that was his apology, why did it hurt the same as every stab, leaving her feeling as empty as before.
She refused to let him forget, that maybe he'd see the damage that was done, yet again and again, he turned away, and she was left to defend her own pain.
She thought she'd never escape the cycle, searching for something to love. yet despite her best judgement, she gave him another chance.
She couldn't just let go, and he didn't ask her to, he just gave himself up, the way he always does. but really was for her this time.
She didn't say she forgave him, and the hurt wasn't quite all gone, but the two shared a smile, and they knew it was time to move on.
